AAs all are aware that Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mouli (Panchkula) has taken up Computer Literacy Programme for neighbourhood school children under “ICT @ School Programme” sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.

Now Intel® has joined hands with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and come forward to implement this programme more effectively. The Intel® Learn Program is a 30 hours, hands on curriculum built around two core modules that tap into children’s interest in their own communities, while nourishing their curiosity with creative, technology-driven projects. The curriculum / books “Technology and Community” has also been designed by Intel® with an objective to develop “Technology Literacy, Critical Thinking & Collaboration” in learners.

“Technology and Community” introduces learners to technology skills such as word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, multimedia and internet research. Through activities and projects, learners discover how the effective use of computers can help improve communities.

The Technology and community is intended for learners ages 8-16 who have beginning or emerging level of technology literacy skills. All of the activities and projects that the learners complete are about their community. The course consists of 15 sessions, each two hours long. During the first ten sessions, the learners work in pairs and use technology and thinking skills to complete many activities involving some aspects of the community in which they live. During the last five sessions, they work in a small group to create a presentation of their ideas about and solutions for a challenge facing their community today.

For every activity and project the learners choose to do, they will need to plan, do, review, and share their ideas and work. There presentations may be shared with invited guests, including friends, family members and the community leaders.
